Estate Agents Pay Above-Average Car Insurance Premiums

A recent study has found that estate agents pay above-average car insurance premiums compared to many other professions. The research, conducted by Marshall Motor Group, analysed insurance quotes across 100 occupations and revealed that both male and female estate agents face higher costs.

According to the study, male estate agents were quoted an average annual premium of £429.91, which is 2.6% higher than the average male premium across all occupations analysed. Female estate agents were quoted £453.52, 3.9% above the female average. The data also showed that women working as estate agents were quoted £23.61 more than their male counterparts, a difference of 5.5%.

The study found that the female estate agent profile received the joint 13th-highest quote among the 100 occupations analysed. This matched the premiums for female surgeons and head teachers, and exceeded those quoted for female physiotherapists and shop managers.

The research also compared estate agents with quantity surveyors, another property-related profession. Male quantity surveyors were quoted £384.13 a year, £45.78 less than male estate agents. Female quantity surveyors were quoted £405.01, £48.51 below the equivalent premium for female estate agents.

Marshall Motor Group stated that the quotes were gathered in February 2026 using a standardised driver profile: a 30-year-old with 12 years’ no-claims bonus, driving a 2020 Ford Fiesta 1.1-litre petrol manual. The quotes were based on comprehensive cover with a £500 voluntary excess, 7,600 annual miles, and use for social, domestic, pleasure, and commuting purposes.

These findings may be relevant for UK letting agents and inventory clerks who use their vehicles for work, as occupation appears to influence insurance premiums.
