Family Building Society appoints Seb Mrotzek as chief operating officer

Family Building Society has appointed Seb Mrotzek to the newly created role of chief operating officer (COO), according to a report by Mortgage Solutions. Mrotzek has worked across banking, financial services, fintech, consulting and financial regulation.

A career spanning banking and regulation

Mrotzek began his career at market intelligence company Datamonitor in 2002, before moving on to roles at Citigroup, Accenture, HSBC Global Asset Management, Barclays, and Lloyds Banking Group.

He then joined the Bank of England's Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) as divisional chief operating officer for banking supervision, and represented the PRA at the central banks' cyber committee and the change and IT board.

Mrotzek then helped establish Redwood Bank, where he became chief information and technology officer. He was most recently director of operations at Finova, responsible for IT, cybersecurity, hosted services, customer operations, risk and customer audit.

What the appointment means for the society

Mark Bogard, CEO of the Family Building Society, said Mrotzek will join the society's executive committee (ExCo) and will lead operational functions and support its strategy for sustainable growth, member service excellence, operational effectiveness, resilience and strong governance.

Bogard noted that the society has a reputation for putting members at the heart of its decision making while continuing to innovate and grow.

Relevance for brokers and intermediaries

For letting agents, inventory clerks and intermediaries who work with lender partners, the appointment signals continued investment in operational effectiveness and customer service at a mutual lender. Mrotzek said he was delighted to be joining the society, citing its clear purpose, distinctive position in the market and commitment to helping generations of families achieve their financial goals.

He also highlighted the role of mutual organisations in the financial services sector, saying that mutuality supports long-term decision-making and creates a strong alignment between organisational success and customer outcomes.
