Goodlord Removes Misleading Guidance on Tenant Information Sheet
Goodlord has deleted incorrect information from its website regarding the new mandatory tenant information sheet. The change follows concerns raised by Paul Lee, a letting agent at Paul Lee & Company in London.
The issue arose ahead of the 31st May deadline for landlords and letting agents to provide the Government’s new Information Sheet to tenants. Failure to meet this deadline could result in a fine of up to £7,000.
Goodlord’s website had previously stated that the How To Rent Guide for Assured Shorthold Tenancies had been replaced by the Information Sheet. However, the Information Sheet is only intended for existing tenants who are transitioning to an assured periodic tenancy under the new law. It is not for new tenants.
The Official Information Sheet explains changes introduced by the Renters’ Rights Act, including updates to Section 21 notices, rent increases, fixed terms, ending tenancies, student lets, and pet policies. It must be provided if the tenancy is an Assured Shorthold Tenancy, was created before 1st May 2026, or has a wholly or partly written record of terms, such as a written tenancy agreement.
The How to Rent Guide has been withdrawn, but it has not been replaced by the Information Sheet. The Written Statement of Terms is required for new tenants or existing tenants without a current tenancy agreement.
A spokesperson for Goodlord stated that the blog post was reviewed and the confusing wording was removed as soon as it was identified. The blog has since been updated.
