Land Registry to Add Property Identifiers to Price Paid Data from 2026

HM Land Registry has announced changes to its monthly Price Paid Dataset, introducing Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) and INSPIRE IDs in separate lookup tables from 28th August 2026. The update is intended to help estate agents and property professionals connect sale price information with property and location datasets more accurately.

According to HM Land Registry, the inclusion of UPRNs and INSPIRE IDs responds to customer demand and aims to reduce errors caused by inconsistent addresses or duplicate records. By linking Price Paid Data to UPRNs, agents will be able to access historic sale prices for the correct property, supporting more accurate listing data.

The Land Registry stated that this change will also provide a clearer property history. The UPRNs are managed by GeoPlace, which maintains these identifiers through local authority address custodians. GeoPlace highlighted that UPRNs serve as a persistent, unique identifier, ensuring that different organisations are referencing the same property, regardless of address variations in their systems.

HM Land Registry also indicated that similar lookup tables will be added to its UK Companies data and Overseas Companies data later in the financial year, as part of efforts to support a more efficient, transparent, and digitally connected property market.

These changes are relevant for UK letting agents and inventory clerks who rely on accurate property data for their work, as the new identifiers are expected to improve the reliability of property information across the sector.
