MIMHC 2026 Survey: Wellbeing Improves but Support Visibility Drops

The latest Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) survey indicates that wellbeing across the mortgage sector has improved, but concerns remain about workload, working hours, and the visibility of employer support. The findings were presented at Mortgage Vision, where it was revealed that 536 people participated in the 2026 survey.

According to the survey, more than half (53%) of respondents rated their wellbeing as good or excellent, an increase from 41% in the previous survey. The proportion of those describing their wellbeing as poor or concerning fell from 22% to 15%. However, the survey also found that 29% of respondents said their wellbeing had improved over the past 12 months, while almost half reported no change and 24% said their wellbeing had worsened.

The survey highlighted that progress in wellbeing has not been uniform across the industry. Nearly three-quarters of respondents had either seen no improvement in their wellbeing or felt it had deteriorated, indicating that further progress is needed.

A key finding was a decline in the visibility of mental health support initiatives within firms. Last year, 70% of respondents said their employer participated in mental health and wellbeing initiatives, compared with 53% this year. The proportion of respondents who felt workplace support had improved also fell from 47% to 35%.

Respondents emphasised the importance of open conversations, meaningful support, improved workload management, confident leadership, and greater assistance for those working alone. The survey suggested that employees are seeking more practical and visible measures to help manage workplace pressures.

The findings are relevant for UK letting agents and inventory clerks, as they highlight the ongoing need for visible mental health support, effective workload management, and strong workplace connections in the property sector.
