Remortgage Searches Increase, Other Mortgage Queries Fall

Remortgage searches in the UK rose to 700,628 in July 2026, marking a 7% increase compared to June and a 5% rise year-on-year, according to data from Twenty7tec. This growth comes as more borrowers review their options ahead of fixed rate expiries and seek competitive lender pricing.

Total mortgage searches reached 1,790,196 in July, a 1% increase from June 2026. However, aside from remortgage activity, searches across other mortgage categories declined.

Buy-to-let (BTL) mortgage searches totalled 269,605 in July, down 2% from June and 2% lower than July 2025. BTL purchase searches fell 3% year-on-year, while BTL remortgage searches were 6% lower compared to the previous year.

Residential purchase searches stood at 660,471, representing a 3% decrease month-on-month and a 1% drop from July 2025. First-time buyer searches reached 159,492, down 4% from June but 1% higher than the same month last year.

The data indicates that while overall mortgage search activity edged up slightly, remortgaging was the main area of growth. This trend may be relevant for letting agents and inventory clerks monitoring market activity, particularly as changes in remortgage and buy-to-let activity can influence rental supply and tenant movement.
