Saffron BS partners with FintechOS to launch AI-powered mortgage origination platform
Saffron Building Society has partnered with FintechOS to introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mortgage origination to its business. The agentic platform will cover broker registration and management, decision in principle (DIP) through to full mortgage application, underwriting, offer and completions across Saffron's full product range, and integration with its Finova servicing platform.
What the platform does
The mutual hopes the move will improve the broker experience, with intermediated mortgages expected to exceed 90% in future. Saffron said the origination experience was a main factor in securing and maintaining intermediary relationships, yet much of the process still requires manual intervention.
The Unified Product Operations platform combines automated decisioning, an AI-embedded underwriting workflow and a business rules engine that lets Saffron adjust its criteria in a centralised system. A product factory feature can also allow the mutual to design and launch new mortgages in days and weeks, rather than months. The platform will give brokers a fully digital journey, shortening the application to mortgage offer process.
What this means for intermediaries
For letting agents and inventory clerks whose landlord and investor clients rely on broker-sourced buy-to-let and specialist finance, faster origination and shorter application-to-offer timescales could mean smoother transactions further down the chain. Saffron's stated aim of growing its specialist lending proposition while retaining personal service and underwriting judgement may also be relevant to agents working with clients who use specialist lenders.
Colin Field, CEO of Saffron Building Society, said the partnership was an important step in the society's wider transformation, investing in modern mortgage origination capability so it can respond more quickly to changing customer and broker needs, create real decision certainty, and grow its specialist lending proposition without compromising personal service and underwriting judgement. He said FintechOS was chosen because its flexible, modular platform will integrate with existing technology, give teams greater control over product and journey changes, and provide a scalable foundation to use AI responsibly.
Teo Blidarus, CEO and founder of FintechOS, said building societies are ambitious, member-focused institutions with strong lending fundamentals, and that Saffron is investing ahead of growth, putting foundations in place now so it can scale lending, win broker relationships, and bring new products to market in weeks rather than months. He added that the UK mutual sector is where some of the most exciting AI adoption in financial services is happening right now.
