Skipton Building Society Pilots E-Signatures for Remortgage Deeds

Skipton Building Society has launched a pilot scheme to use electronic signatures on mortgage deeds for remortgage customers. The initiative aims to modernise and streamline the remortgage process by removing the need for paper documents and witnessed signatures.

The pilot uses Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES), which are a secure and identity-verified form of electronic signature. This approach is intended to make remortgage transactions quicker and simpler for customers, helping to reduce delays in the process.

Skipton is running the trial in collaboration with HM Land Registry, as well as conveyancing firms Conveyancing Direct and Your Conveyancer. The technology for the pilot is provided by Veyco.

If the pilot proves successful, Skipton Building Society has indicated that it could support a wider rollout of electronic signatures across other customer journeys. The trial is part of a broader ambition to modernise the mortgage journey and reflects growing momentum in the adoption of digital solutions within the UK property sector.

For letting agents and inventory clerks, the move towards digital signatures could signal further changes in property transaction processes, potentially reducing paperwork and speeding up administrative tasks related to remortgages.
